PhD Scholarship Opportunity in Blockchain-Based Fact-Checking and Fighting Misinformation
A call for a PhD scholarship is open (jointly funded by the Government of Ireland and Google under the 2022 Enterprise Partnership Scheme). The scholarship will be provided to the successful applicants in one of the following topics:
- online content moderation and governance of content-sharing platforms;
- public policy and legal frameworks for content safety; and
- design of systems to address violative behaviour online.
I will be supporting an applicant who is interested in writing a proposal in the area of Blockchain assisted cross-platform social media fact checking.

Entry Requirements
In addition to the requirements specific to the position, the minimum entry requirements for the PhD course at UCD are:
- Higher Education
- 2.1 grade (i.e. with a score higher than 60% or equivalent) in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree ( preferably research masters ) in computer science, maths, engineering, or similar technical discipline.
- English Language Proficiency Non-native English speakers require at least:
- TOEFL : A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section. Or
- IELTS : An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version. Or
- equivalent (further details on the equivalence of tests are available here).
